Utah Girls State Policies

As a Girls State attendee you will be expected to agree and follow the below policies.

Pledge

As a citizen of Utah Girls State of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Utah, I voluntarily make the following pledge:

  1. I will obey the rules of Girls State as listed in the registration information and as given by the Girls State Director and staff. I will take a serious and conscientious interest in discharging my duties as a citizen of Girls State. I understand that there are consequences, to include being dismissed from the program, if I do not follow the Girls State rules.

  2. I understand this is an Americanism program in the study of city, county, and state government. I will abide by the judgment of those responsible for the Americanism program.

  3. I understand that the American Legion Auxiliary believes in God and Country and is a non-secular organization. I will be conscientious and respectful of all religions.

  4. I am not a member of, and do not subscribe to, the principles of any group opposed to our form of government and I do willingly salute the American Flag.

  5. I will take an active part in the affairs of the political party, city, county, and legislative body to which I am assigned. If elected to office, I will serve to the best of my ability and will be honest and fair in all dealings.

  6. I understand that if I do not complete the assignments of from the ALA Utah Girls State program, that no refund will be given and I may be responsible to repay any sponsors who provided funds in my behalf. I will not receive a certificate of graduation or be able to note ALA Utah Girls State on applications or resumes.

  7. I will make a formal report, written or oral, to my sponsoring American Legion Auxiliary Unit and/or financial sponsors when I return home regarding my ALA Utah Girls State experience and knowledge gained.

  8. I agree that any photographs or videos taken during ALA Utah Girls State session are sole property of ALA Utah Girls State, and may be used for publicity without permission or any remuneration.

  9. I will be fair, honest, and cooperative in all my dealings with my fellow "Girls State Citizens".

Refund Policy

Registration Fee Refund Guidelines:

  • A full refund will be given if cancellation notification is completed prior to May 1, 2024.

  • A 50% refund will be given if cancellation notification is completed between May 1, 2024 and May 15, 2024.

  • No refund will be given for cancellation after May 15, 2024 unless an extreme emergency arises.

Proper cancellation notification requires all 3 of the following:

  • Verbal notification to the Unit President or GS Chairman.

  • Verbal notification to the GS Director.

Note: Refunds after May 1, 2024, will be not processed until approved by the ALA Executive Board at their meeting in late June, after the ALA Utah Girls State session.

Code of Conduct for Utah Girls State

The following rules will help us maintain an orderly ALA Utah Girls State session and provide you an exceptional learning experience. Any ALA Utah Girls State Citizen breaking the rules could be denied the privilege of participating in events, receiving her Girls State pin, or a Graduation Certificate.

  1. Citizens are required to attend all meetings, be on time and dressed appropriately.

  2. No campaigning until you have filed for office. You will need to ask a delegate to nominate you for an office, but you cannot campaign until you have filed.

  3. No bullying of any kind is allowed. Bullying is inexcusable; ALA Utah Girls State has a firm policy against all types of bullying including teasing, taunting, gossip, attempts to hurt another, etc. Indirect methods through the internet, social media, etc. will not be tolerated.

  4. The ALA Utah Girls State Director can dismiss citizens for poor citizenship. Should this happen, there will be no refund of registration fees. Additionally, sponsoring units may seek reimbursement from the citizen for the entire citizen fee. Information saying she left the program early will be sent to her high school and the sponsoring American Legion Auxiliary Unit.
